Museum of Flight, Seattle, WA
May 26, 2024
Seattle is home to one of the largest aircraft and aerospace companies in the world, making it reasonable to expect that an air and space museum in the city would boast an impressive collection ... or so we hoped. However, before our trip, we were unfamiliar with the Museum of Flight, in contrast to the National Air and Space Museum, which is renowned for its outstanding collection. Our perceptions changed quickly upon visiting the museum. While its collection is smaller than that of the National Air and Space Museum, it remains very impressive.
The Museum of Flight stands as one of the largest non-profit air and space museums globally. With its extensive collection, it offers an immersive journey through the history of aviation and space exploration. This collection is displayed across multiple buildings and outdoor exhibit areas. Highlights include the first Boeing 747, a supersonic Concorde, and the original Boeing Company factory, known as the "Red Barn." Visitors can also tour the impressive Boeing B-52G Stratofortress, which is part of a memorial park dedicated to members of the U.S. Air Force Strategic Air Command.
Below is a small sample of 20 photos taken at the museum, showcasing some of its modern aircraft exhibits. The museum houses over 170 aircraft and aerospace vehicles, so to reiterate, this is merely a small sample.
