8-Day Rhine River Cruise

We have exceedingly little interest in taking an ocean cruise.  The thought of being in a metal container with 2000 other humans does not sound attractive to us.  However, perhaps a week on a smaller metal container, but with fewer than 200 people, coupled with the ability to see various scenic and historical European destinations, sounded much more attractive. Thus, we booked one of the shorter Viking River cruises. This one sailed for 8 days along the Rhine River. Overall, despite a few minor quibbles with some of the excursions, the cruise did not disappoint. We had a great time, and the ship itself exceeded our expectations in terms of service and quality.

 

The detailed itinerary is shown in the table below.  Viking created the entire itinerary.  We added 2 days in Basel before the cruise, and two days in Amsterdam after the cruise, both of which were Viking-provided tour extensions. With the trip extensions, the trip totaled 12 days, one of our longer trips.
