The Grumman EA-6B Prowler was an electronic warfare aircraft developed from the A-6 Intruder attack aircraft. The Navy needed a dedicated electronic countermeasures platform in the 1960s. Grumman extended the A-6 fuselage to accommodate four crew members and electronic warfare equipment. The EA-6B entered service in 1971 and was retired from Navy service in 2015 and Marine service in 2019.

The EA-6B utilized two Pratt & Whitney J52-P-408 turbojet engines, each producing 11,200 pounds of thrust. Its maximum speed was 651 mph, with a service ceiling of 38,000 feet. It carried five external jamming pods and could mount AGM-88 HARM missiles. The Prowler provided electronic warfare support for strike missions and suppressed enemy air defenses.
