The Boeing 737 is the smallest and most popular jetliner in Boeing's family, earning a reputation as a dependable workhorse in airline fleets worldwide. Since entering service in 1967 with the 737-100 and stretched 737-200 models, over 10,000 have been produced. The aircraft was designed to share components with Boeing's 707 and 727 but featured a major innovation: eliminating the flight engineer position in favor of a two-crew flight deck. The 737 evolved through several generations, including the improved 737-300/400/500 series with CFM56 engines in the mid-1980s, the transcontinental-range Next Generation series in the mid-1990s, and the fourth-generation MAX family that entered service in 2017.
