This image shows the internal structure of the low-pressure steam turbine on the USS Midway, viewed through a maintenance porthole. The turbine blades and part of the rotor shaft assembly are visible near top of photo. The radial arms and blade rows are part of the turbine's stage arrangement, where alternating rows of fixed and rotating blades extract energy from expanding steam.
