(Click on Picture to Bring Up Full Image)

The USS Midway was powered by four Westinghouse geared steam turbines, each connected to a propeller shaft and driven by steam produced in twelve boilers. The engine rooms were massive, high-temperature environments requiring engineering personnel to constantly monitor and maintain. These compartments contained the turbines, reduction gears, shafting, and auxiliary systems, such as feedwater pumps, condensers, and lubricating oil systems.
