Dry Cleaning

(Click on Picture to Bring Up Full Image)

The USS Midway's dry cleaning and laundry facility was one of the largest afloat, capable of processing over 5,000 pounds of laundry daily to support a crew of more than 4,000 personnel.  The dry cleaning room operated industrial-grade washers, extractors, and steam presses 24/7, with sailors working rotating shifts to maintain hygiene and uniform standards critical to naval discipline. Remarkably, the facility mirrored a small city's laundry operation, underscoring the logistical complexity of sustaining long-term deployments at sea.
