Pennsylvania Railroad #94 is a 0-4-0 steam switcher, designed for tight-radius industrial and yard work. As PRR’s #94 was one of the heaviest and most powerful 0-4-0’s ever built. The A5s class featured high tractive effort in a compact footprint, making it ideal for congested urban terminals like those in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. Unlike larger road locomotives, the A5s emphasized quick acceleration and maneuverability over speed or range. These locomotives were known for their rugged performance, their short wheelbase and stiff ride made them best suited as a switcher and less suited for longer runs.
