Pennsylvania Railroad #5741 is a G5s class 4-6-0 “Ten-Wheeler” steam locomotive, designed primarily for commuter and local passenger service. The 4-6-0 configuration provided a balance of speed and traction, making it well-suited for the frequent stops and starts of suburban routes. The G5s class was one of the most powerful 4-6-0 designs used in North America, delivering strong acceleration and reliable performance. Its compact size and high power-to-weight ratio made it a favorite for tight schedules and demanding short hauls. PRR operated 90 of these locomotives, mostly in Pennsylvania and the New York/New Jersey region.
