The Republic P-47D-30-RA Thunderbolt was a late-war variant of World War II's most powerful fighter-bomber. It featured an improved bubble canopy design that provided pilots with better visibility than earlier models. The aircraft was powered by a massive Pratt & Whitney R-2800 engine, producing over 2,000 horsepower, making it one of the largest and heaviest single-engine fighters of the war.
The P-47D-30 was armed with eight .50-caliber machine guns and could carry 2,500 pounds of bombs or rockets. Its rugged construction allowed it to absorb significant battle damage and return home. Pilots nicknamed it the "Jug" and effectively utilized it for both air combat and ground attack missions in Europe and the Pacific. The "RA" designation indicated it was built at Republic's New York factory.
