The image depicts the enlisted crew mess deck chow line, which was the primary food service line for the bulk of the ship's crew. At its peak, the USS Midway supported over 4,000 personnel, requiring the galley to serve more than 13,000 meals daily. Meals were high-calorie, protein-heavy, and designed to sustain sailors working long, physically demanding shifts, emphasizing volume, speed, and consistency over variety.
