Southern Pacific No. 4449 is a 4-8-4 "GS-4" Northern-type steam locomotive built by Lima Locomotive Works in 1941 for high-speed passenger service on Southern Pacific's premier routes, including the Daylight trains between Los Angeles and San Francisco. It features streamlined casing, a bright red-and-orange livery, and advanced features for the time, including all axle roller bearings, a feedwater heater, and an all-weather cab.
