Oregon Railway & Navigation No. 197

The Oregon Railway & Navigation 197 is a preserved 4-6-2 "Pacific" type steam locomotive built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1905 for passenger service. It was later absorbed into the Union Pacific roster and underwent major modifications in 1923, including conversion from a four-cylinder compound to a two-cylinder simple engine and renumbering to UP 3203. These changes reflected evolving operational needs and maintenance simplification. Designed for high-speed passenger work, it featured large driving wheels and balanced proportions suited for express service in the Pacific Northwest. The locomotive is now preserved in Portland, Oregon.
